Another Blizzard?

Updated: Dec 21, 2022

The risk for another blizzard looks likely by Wednesday and going through the rest of the work week. The National Weather Service has placed most of South Dakota under a Winter Storm Watch starting tomorrow in the west and Thursday for the east.

Snow is expected to move into the area early Wednesday and continue chances throughout the day before ending from west to east.

Behind this system, wind gusts up to 55mph will blow around snow already on the ground, creating a ground blizzard. These blizzard conditions are expected in the west on Wednesday and more eastward by Thursday. These conditions look to stay around for Friday.

Besides the blowing snow and reduced visibility, wind chills readings will be extremely dangerous, dropping as low as -50. Wind Chill Warnings are up statewide starting Wednesday and pushing through Thursday and Friday.
