Changes in the weather will bring chances for rain and even snow to the region by Tuesday and into Wednesday. Already, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect starting Tuesday morning and continuing until Wednesday morning. The watch is up for heavy snowfall of six inches or more.

Precipitation is expected to move into the region later this evening, and as temperatures start to drop, rain will turn to snow by Tuesday.
Snow is expected to become heavier by Tuesday afternoon and into the evening while rain spreads across South Dakota. An isolated thunderstorm is possible in the east, and even a spotty strong thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
Forecast models show the heaviest snow amounts across the northern Black Hills. The Euro (ECMWF) weather model shows three to six inches in the Deadwood, Lead, and Spearfish Canyon regions. The American (GFS) model shows a little more snow, six to nine inches.
