The northern parts of the Black Hills are under a Winter Storm Warning for today and Tuesday, as total snow amounts can top a foot.
Heavy snow is expected, with snow accumulations of nine inches or more and up to a foot of snow in the higher elevations by Wednesday morning. In addition to the snowfall, winds gusting as high as 50 mph will create areas of blowing snow.
Heaviest snow and greatest accumulations are expected to occur at elevations above 5000 feet. A brief break in snowfall may occur this afternoon or evening before a second round of heavy snow.
