Milton Becomes a Hurricane

Milton becomes a hurricane on Sunday with maximum sustained winds of 85mph at the 4:00 pm CDT advisory.



The hurricane's center was located at 22.4 N and 93.8 W, moving to the east at seven mph. Milton is forecast to strengthen quickly and will be a major hurricane by Monday afternoon as it continues its track towards Florida.



While it is too soon to specify the exact magnitude and location of the greatest impacts, there is an incresing risk to life-threatening storm surge and damging winds...

Hurricane Milton is forecast to impact Florida by midweek and is highly likely to be a category three or four hurricane status. Areas of heavy rainfall will affect parts of Florida on Monday head of the storm, with more heavy rain from direct effects from the main part of the storm. Deadly storm surges and damaging winds are expected to start by early Wednesday across the western coast of Florida's peninsula.
