Possible Storm for Next Week

Concerns are growing about a possible storm system impacting South Dakota by the next work week.

Weather models predict a storm system with moderate to heavy precipitation for South Dakota starting on Monday. The GFS model shows rainfall moving up from the south on Monday and spreading across central and eastern areas of the state. As the storm system pulls away towards the northeast, wraparound precipitation looks to bring wintry weather to parts of central and eastern South Dakota on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The ECMWF agrees with the GFS model that moderate to heavy rains will occur in central and eastern regions of the state by Monday afternoon/evening. The difference with the ECMWF is that some precipitation, possibly snow or a wintry mix, will impact western regions by Tuesday and then spread wintry weather towards the east into Wednesday.
