A low pressure system is forecast to move across the region for Easter weekend, bringing the chance of rain and snow to areas of South Dakota.

Precipitation will start Saturday morning in western South Dakota, with chances of rain or snow continuing through Sunday and into Monday morning. Snow will be more likely during the nighttime hours as temperatures drop below freezing, but depending on temperatures, it cannot be ruled out during the daytime hours. The precipitation is expected to move into eastern South Dakota during Saturday night and continue on Sunday.

By Monday, another wave of precipitation, this time more snow towards the west with a mixture of rain and snow to the east.

Currently, the EURO (ECMWF) and Canadian (GEM) models show the most snowfall in the western half of the state, while the American (GFS) model shows more widespread snow accumulations through Tuesday morning.
