We might be in the middle of winter, but wildland fires are still occurring in the Black Hills.

Over the weekend, the Custer Volunteer Fire Department and other federal fire personnel were called to a wildland fire southwest of Custer. The department warns that conditions are dry and can easily start fires.
Yes it's January and yes it's still dry. Please be careful with any ignition sources.

According to the Great Plains Fire Information, the Red Star Fire is completely contained and burned about 1.89 acres.
