T-Storms with Some Strong Possible

Writer: WeatherSDWeatherSD

The powerful storm system we have been talking about for nearly a week is still on track to bring precipitation and thunderstorms to the area.

Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to develop by this evening. An isolated strong to severe thunderstorm is possible across mainly eastern regions of South Dakota.

As we move towards the overnight hours, precipitation and thunderstorm coverage will become more widespread. Another band of precipitation located over the west and central regions of the state will be accompanied by colder air and is expected to change over to snow as it continues to push eastward. That second band is where a quick hit of accumulating snow and areas of blowing snow concern comes in. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for those threats along Interstate 29 for later tonight and into Saturday.

The main threat with these thunderstorms will be hail and strong winds. You cannot rule out an isolated tornado in the far southeast.
