It might be the middle of winter, but fire dangers are still real for parts of the Black Hills. During the early Thursday hours, the Custer Volunteer Fire Department was called to this wildland fire northwest of Custer.
The area does have snow on the ground, but the conditions in the southern Black Hills are still dry. The fire department is also asking residents to check recently burned piles to make sure the piles are completely out.
If you recently burned piles, please be diligent about checking them. Conditions change so fast in the Black Hills.
