On Tuesday, multiple fire agencies responded to a wildland fire south of Manderson in southwest South Dakota, including ground crews, air support, and engine fire crews.
By Wednesday evening, the fire was estimated to be 25 percent contained, but challenges continued due to high winds, drought conditions, and the fire's problematic terrain location. The Oglala Sioux Tribe (OST) Emergency Management reported that no structures are being threatened, and about 100 acres have been burned by the fire.
Unfortunately, more dry and warm weather is expected in the area, with highs reaching near 90 degrees by Sunday. Northwest winds are expected to be mainly under 10mph before switching to the southeast for Friday from 5 to 15mph. A detailed 10-day forecast for the area can be found on the WeatherSD Forecast page.
